As autumn brings refreshing breezes, the campus takes on a new look. On the morning of September 1st, the CIESZU Opening Ceremony for 2023-2024 Autumn Semester Language Students was held in the No. 1 Lecture Hall of Huixing Building. International language students from all over the world gathered together for a new semester. Heads of CIE, police officers from Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau Nanshan Sub-bureau, directors of language department, head teachers and new language students attended the opening ceremony.
First of all, on behalf of the faculty and students of CIE, Vice Dean Zheng Jie expressed a warm welcome to the new language students from all over the world. She introduced Shenzhen University to the new students from the aspects of development history, special features, educational programs and achievements. She also hoped that students could gain a deeper understanding of the Chinese culture and experience its charm by learning Chinese. Last but not least, she encouraged all students to study hard, improve their Chinese language proficiency, and become friendly ambassadors for international exchanges in the future.
Ms. Min Xiao spoke as the teacher representative of CIE. She introduced the dynamic and innovative city of Shenzhen from the aspects of urban landscape and cultural characteristics, and then focused on showing various courses and cultural exchange activities of international students in CIE, helping the new students gain a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the upcoming study life.
Koki Ito from Japan and Pooneh Dabiri from Iran spoke respectively as student representatives. They recounted their study and life experiences at Shenzhen University, shared the changes that learning Chinese has brought to them, and encouraged the new students to defy difficulties and dare to challenge when learning Chinese.
Subsequently, the International Choir of Shenzhen University performed the song “Liyuan” on stage. The lyrics of the song incorporated the local customs of Shenzhen, showing the spirit and story of Shenzhen University, which fully demonstrated the youthful vitality and artistic talent of international students. Beautiful melodies, marvelous singing and graceful dances intertwined and fused on the stage, bringing everyone a feast for the eyes and ears. After the performance, the choir director Shin Moon-Sub, and the member of the choir, Pooneh Dabiri, made a brief introduction of the choir and warmly welcomed new language students who are also interested in choir singing to join them.
Afterwards, police officer Xiao Jiongsu from Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau Nanshan Sub-bureau introduced the relevant laws and regulations for foreigners in China, explained the requirements for applying study visa and residence permit, and also emphasized the importance of safety education to the new students.
Finally, Ms. Zhang Qianting and Mr. Xia Tianyu introduced the attendance regulations and course features of the language courses, and gave warm reminders to the students. After a group photo of all attendees, new language students were assigned to different classes, and met with their head teachers. The opening ceremony came to a successful conclusion in a warm atmosphere.
